ASCENSION

On January 9, 1793, Jean-Pierre Blanchard launched the first successful manned balloon ascension in North America from Philadelphia. This book was born out of my ongoing interest in 18th-century travel writing and the history of aviation, particularly its relation to contemporary travel and war.
